"Karfreitag" (Good friday) or "Car Friday" is traditionally the start of the season in the tuning scene calendar every year - but also in the calendar of the North Rhine-Westphalia police. In 2025, as in previous years, the police will be taking part in the nationwide road safety campaign "Red for speeders, posers and illegal tuning". The police will be present and carry out checks throughout the state, particularly at known meeting points of the scene.
Interior Minister Herbert Reul: "Anyone who thinks it's cool to lower their vehicle is welcome to do so, as long as it's roadworthy. It is important to me that everyone on the road arrives home safely. That's why we have clear rules that everyone has to follow. Good Friday is control day, because safety has priority."
Since 2018, the police have been particularly present on the roads on Good Friday. The focus is on technical modifications or conversions to the vehicle. During mobile traffic checks with laser measuring devices, the officers also pay attention to speed. By talking to car, motorcycle or truck drivers, they raise awareness of the dangers of road traffic and excessive speed.
During the nationwide "Car Friday" control campaign last year, the NRW police wrote 2,943 reports of offences and levied 4,000 warnings.
